I know it’s been a long while since I’ve updated this blog and I won’t give you none of the “oh I’ve been so busy” excuses. The truth of the matter is that there is soooo much written on social media and how they relate to PR every day, which makes me think each time I’m about to write a new blog post, what’s the point of adding yet another post on this subject. That wouldn’t add something of value now would it, which would fail one of the basic principles of social media.

This is why I am strongly thinking of shifting the direction of this blog to social media and PR in Cyprus specifically (or online marketing or new media marketing or emerging media communications or whatever you want to call it) and here is where I need your opinion and feedback before doing so. My argument for it is that there aren’t any blogs specializing in social media or PR/marketing in Cyprus (feel free to correct me if I’m wrong here), this is a market I really know (I live here), can observe closer and leave you with conclusions on the subject without the need to draw from external sources, plus I have a pretty good knowledge of social media in other countries and on a global level (heck, that’s what I’m paid to do) so I would be able to deliver a good comparison of social media in Cyprus versus other countries, as well as catch international social media trends about to enter Cyprus, bringing them to your attention before they even do.

So then, how do you feel about this?  Would you be interested to read more about social media in Cyprus? Now is the time to speak or forever hold your peace.

Well, considering that Mashable’s piece is included in the Econsultancy blog post might exclude it as a pure-coincidence and classify it more as a clicking-on-the-related-link-of-the-post-I’m-already-reading-placed-there-purposely sorta thing. But who’s keeping tabs anyway!

The weirdest techie coincidence I’ve had up to date is when I first signed up for Twitter and was asking our company online strategy Consultant for his expert opinion on how to retweet easier and how to include shortened links in my tweets. While I was waiting for his response I randomly came across TweetDeck and started downloading it. In the meantime I went to the kitchen to get myself a glass of water where our pre-mentioned consultant was there asking me if I’m downloading TweetDeck…for which I said yes in a weirded out ‘how the hell did you know that, is Big Brother watching me’ look on my face. When I asked him, he told me that he just sent me an email telling me to download TweetDeck as the solution for my questions. Then it was my turn to weird him out by telling him that by pure coincidence I had started downloading it seconds before sending his email. Muahaha!

…and don’t even get me started on real life coincidences like randomly meeting my grandmother’s godson, who I’d never met before in my life, in a cafe in New York (note that my grandmother comes from a tiny village in Cyprus called Vavla with a population of 40 people at best). But those are stories for a different time.

This beautiful Sunday morning I was wonderfully woken up by Hitchcock’s The Birds…the live version of it!

A pigeon (!) flew in my bedroom this morning from the little crack I left open in the bedroom window last night and just flew around scared and panicked, bumping on everything. Seeing that I was out last night at a wedding drinking wine until 3am, what better, peaceful way to wake up at 8:30am than a frantic bird flying all around your bedroom, right over your head, hitting the glass on the window right over your bed and then the mirror and then, well, any solid surface in the room. Of course, as the strong, solution oriented, problem solving person I am, I sat up in my bed, pulled the sheets closer to me and squeaked like a mad woman hoping it would go away… which didn’t help the pigeon’s panic. After watching Hitchcock’s The Birds at a young and tender age, you can imagine the lovely thoughts going through my head, reenacting the movie’s poster.

Well, finally the pigeon settled down in a corner, I got up, opened the window all the way, walked towards the pigeon to grab it and take it out but it saw me coming and flew off, right out the window thankfully. But then of course I couldn’t sleep after that so after watching a couple of episodes of Grey’s Anatomy, here I am writing about this.
