The strong impact mommy blogs and mommy online communities have internationally is well documented, with such blogs and communities applying significant pressure now to brands and products (see classic example: Motrin) and providing a strong support system to new mommies and daddies. Parents in Cyprus will now be experiencing the same impact and community feeling it seems, with the first moms online community in Cyprus, called mums in Cyprus.
Mums in Cyprus launched in December 2009 and it provides a platform for moms to meet, find information on and talk about… erm, the things that moms talk about. This social network is starting to become influential (by Cyprus standards) with 400+ members, 11 featured languages and business directories etc for all 4 cities across the Republic of Cyprus. I was impressed with the good job Carine Khoury, its creator did with the site and how social and community oriented it is. It’s built with a Social Go platform and some of its key features are:
- Video chat
- A forum
- A blog (updated regularly)
- A playgroups per city
- A businesses-useful-to-mums directory
- and even a Twitter Account (@mumsincyprus)
Mums in Cyprus has had its first appearance in mainstream media with this The Cyprus Mail article.

I was happy to write about mums in cyprus as it’s great to see a first, well organized moms community online which focuses on just that – building a genuine and helpful community – rather of trying to sell business products or ad space. I would like to agree with you to Artemis that Carine has done a fantastic com site and as you have said a well organized online site too. Its amazing how many mums have joined in this friendly com site. A great way to make friends especially when you have just arrived in cyprus i remember when i first came to cyprus 33 years ago there was only a few mother & toddlers group mornings but, now there is so much more to offer and get involved in especially with mumsincyprus site…
I would like to thank Carine for creating this group. I have met Carine and she is a fantastic person to know and has a great personality. My mum had passed away in january and i found this site through facebook and it has help me through this sad time and since i have joined in this group its a pleasure to be part of….
I have met Carine personally when it was at Soullas fun day in Lanarca, she is a very warm person with a great personality and is a pleasure to meet….

Thanks to Carines for creating this site were just move in here in cyprus from middle east. This site is perfect for me as sitting at home and baby sitting is getting bored now.
